Rookie Numbers

Gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers in this racket. — Matthew McConaughey as Mark Hanna in The Wolf of Wall Street

I am getting a trickle of traffic to this blog and that is quite understandable, as I don’t have a particularly large online presence. Truth be told, I am not overly concerned about building a large online following at this time.

My two previous blogs saw some traffic, although it certainly wasn’t anywhere close to what some of my more prestigious colleagues and friends might see. And again, I was OK with that. While I was actively and regularly posting to my blogs, I wasn’t surprised to see traffic. What was surprising though was the traffic that I would see when I was not regularly posting.

In particular, I was somewhat surprised by the big jump in numbers that I saw on my less topic-focused blog in 2018 when I really wasn’t contributing much to it or the other blog devoted to health, fitness, and sport performance training. Inexplicably, I saw a big jump in September 2018. I have been unable to explain the steady and greater traffic in 2018 and the big jump in September of that year, but it was so curious an occurrence that I took a screenshot of the numbers for that period (see below).

It appeared that some of my posts were more popular than others, but I am not sure why. I had posted a number of links to music videos that I liked and a few of those saw regular traffic. Not terribly surprising, I suppose. After all, someone could have found their way to my blog after an Internet search for a particular song. But I noticed that the person or persons almost never clicked on the links. Curious.

Anyway, traffic dropped off quite a bit in 2019 and petered out so much by December 2019 that I decided to shutter the blogs. Again, I wasn’t posting much by that point anyway.

As I am really just posting now as a form of recreation and to get in habit of writing something semi-regularly, I am not too concerned with traffic. Later, perhaps I will focus more on driving traffic here. In the meantime, if you found your way to my little online harbor, welcome. I hope that you enjoy your port call. 🏴‍☠️😁
