I had the privilege of experiencing a Buddy Guy performance at Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area in late 2013 during the Pleasure Island Seafood, Blues & Jazz Festival. When I was driving past the Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, Illinois the other day, I was reminded by a billboard that he is winding down the Damn Right Farewell Tour. I purchased tickets for an upcoming show and I am really looking forward to it. Lord willing, I will be able to see him perform one last time before he retires. The man is a truly phenomenal blues artist, guitar player, and performer.
I got turned on to blues music by a coworker decades ago when I worked for the New Hanover County Parks & Recreation (now Parks & Garden) department. I have a number of blues artists whose work that I enjoy and whose music that I own. Buddy Guy is one of those blues artists. B. B. King is another. I had the privilege of seeing and hearing B. B. King perform in the inaugural show at the Durham Performing Arts Center. He is no longer with us, but he left us with some great music and memories. Buddy Guy has likewise given us some great music and memories. Thankfully, he is still with us and still bringing the blues to the world.
I highly recommend that you try to get tickets to one of his remaining shows. There were still some tickets available for his upcoming show in my old stomping grounds of Wilmington, North Carolina. Perhaps there are tickets available in other cities as well. Regardless of whether you consider yourself to be a fan of the blues, if you're a fan of music and the performing arts you will enjoy yourself. You can thank me later. 😉
